FIFA: ‘No more excuses’ for a player’s misconduct
The FIFA ethics committee is examining an incident last month in which a former Chelsea player allegedly used racist and homophobic slurs against a rival in a friendly game in the same city.
The player has denied the allegations and is appealing.
“FIFA does not tolerate racism, homophobia, or discrimination of any kind,” a spokesman said in a statement.
“The committee will look into the allegations of the player’s conduct and take any necessary action.
The case will be dealt with by the disciplinary panel.”
The player is not facing any disciplinary action from FIFA, but the FIFA ethics office has announced that it has launched a criminal investigation into the matter.
A spokesperson for the ethics committee said the player has not been given any reasons for his actions.
