When construction helmet workers quit, their union’s plans for a new industry
Construction helmet workers are considering the possibility of leaving their jobs, and a new job-sharing company is hoping to help them get on their feet.
News24 has been told the construction helmet industry is one of the biggest on the West Coast and that more than 20,000 people are employed in the construction industry.
The construction industry in NSW has seen a dramatic rise in job losses in recent years.
The downturn has forced the closure of hundreds of construction sites across the state and forced a massive exodus of workers from the industry.
In NSW the construction sector employs more than 8,000 workers.
The number of construction jobs has dropped by more than 60 per cent in the last three years, with more than 12,000 jobs lost over the same period.
Construction helmet workers have been left jobless and without jobs since the start of the downturn.
It has meant the industry has struggled to cope with the impact of the economic crisis, with some workers having to take jobs outside the industry to survive.
One construction worker, who asked not to be named, said the industry’s biggest problem was its reliance on workers who are not technically certified, or workers with previous experience in the industry, to do the work.
“We’ve got a big industry, we need to get a big organisation in there,” he said.
“If you don’t have a structure in place, you can’t do it.”
It’s just like, you have to be able to be in and out of the building.
If you’re not able to do that, you’re going to get burned.
“A new industry is being createdThe new company, Cement Helmet Works, is aiming to help workers get back on their foot and help them find work.
It says it will take on construction helmet apprentices and provide them with the skills they need to do their job properly.”
Cement Helmetworks aims to provide the industry with the workforce it needs to meet its increasing demand for construction helmets and equipment, while offering the opportunity for apprentices to take on their apprenticeship responsibilities and to earn their first experience in a construction helmet factory,” it said.
But some industry experts are worried about the impact on the industry in general, saying the industry needs more apprentices.”
There’s a lot of concern about the apprenticeship industry, and the number of people that want to enter the construction business,” Professor Scott Smith from the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) said.
He said the current apprenticeship system was broken, and it was not fair that someone could get a job without training.”
I think that the apprenticeships system in NSW is the best it can be,” Professor Smith said.”[But] the whole thing just doesn’t work.
You can’t get into the industry and be an apprentice and then come back and do it again.
“So it’s not a good system, it’s just a bad way to do it.”
Construction helmet jobs will be replaced with part-time jobsWhile there is currently no plan to replace the existing jobs with full-time construction jobs, there are signs that some parts of the industry are preparing for a shift.
Last month, the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) and the NSW Construction Association announced a new apprenticeship scheme aimed at boosting the number who are taking on part- time and casual work.
They also said more people were joining construction apprenticeships and starting to gain experience in other industries, including the automotive industry.
“That’s something that has been a concern for the industry over the last couple of years, because they know that we need more people in the sector,” Professor Taylor said.
In November, the NSW Government announced it would be building more than $200 million to help construction helmet makers, with construction helmet maker Bournemouth Robotics joining the scheme.
